Big guy, never cried before, he meets me he starts cryin’ his eyes out. Big guy! I mean, I’m a big guy, but this guy was BIG. And he comes up to me and he’s already got tears in his eyes before he says a word, first time he’s ever cried, this big guy, and he tells me he thinks that I’m the most persecuted person in the history of this country. The MOST PERSECUTED! Me! In the history of this country, the most persecuted. That’s not me saying it, that’s this big guy, never met him before but I don’t disagree with him. It’s true, and you know it, and I know it, and EVERYBODY knows it. And as he’s telling me this he’s got tears running down his cheeks — red cheeks, too, it was freezing out, I’ll never forget it, if it was a little colder they would have frozen right there on his face. And he says, “Sir, how do you do it? How do you DO IT? How do you put up with all the attacks? You must be some kind of Superman, only Superman could put up with this much persecution.” That’s when he said it, he said, “Sir, you are the most persecuted person in the history of this country.” And there was a catch in his voice, almost a sob, actually maybe it was a sob, and he says, “Sir, you are treated so unfairly, I don’t want to live in a world that treats someone as perfect as you as unfairly as they treat you”— the guy’s talking about killing himself, that’s how upset he was about how unfairly I’m treated. I’m thinking, I hope he doesn’t do it, I’m gonna need his vote …
